The number of cases of viral hepatitis A in the first eight months of this year has doubled compared with the corresponding period last year. The National Public Health Center said that almost 300 cases of viral hepatitis A were recorded in 2016, 82% of which among children. The Center’s vice director Nicolae Furtuna has told IPN that this figure must worry the local public authorities, education institutions and parents.
According to him, viral hepatitis A is also called the disease of dirty hands. That’s why special attention should be paid to hygiene in education institutions and at home. “Any case of infection is serious for a child, even if this disease does not become chronic and does not leave consequences,” stated Nicolae Furtuna. He added that this disease is more intense and spread in autumn.
The National Public Health Center said most of the cases of hepatitis A were reported in the districts of Cantemir and Soldanesti, by 50 cases each. A number of 48 cases were recorded in Floresti district and 34 cases in Rezina district.
The symptoms of viral hepatitis A include general weakness, headache, lack of appetite, vomiting, abdominal pain and other digestive disorders. Often, the start of the disease is similar to food poisoning or respiratory infection.
