The number of new subscribers to fixed (wired) broadband Internet services in rural areas in 2013 was over two times higher than that of subscribers in urban areas. The number of subscribers in villages during a year rose by 34,500 or over 22%, while in cities and towns – by 15,400 or over 5%, IPN reports.
According to the national ICT regulator (ANRCETI), the fixed broadband Internet subscribers in Moldova last year increased by 50,000 or 12% on 2012, to 467,000.
The average fixed broadband Internet access penetration rate per 100 households grew by 5% on 2012, to 38.9%. In Chisinau, this rate was over 70%, in Balti – 45%, while in Gagauzia – 42%.
Statistics show that 41.9% or over 195,000 of the broadband Internet subscribers are concentrated in the municipality of Chisinau. A private individual - subscriber last year paid an average wired Internet bill of 152 lei, while a legal entity - subscriber – of 683 lei.
