In the first half of this year, the number of tourists and hikers participating in tourism organized by travel agencies and tour operators was 210,100 people, 21.1% more compared to January-June 2023. In this period, sales of travel agencies and tour operators totaled 1.55 billion lei, 15.7% more compared to January-June 2023.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, inbound tourism registered 25,600 people (+55.1% compared to January-June 2023). Outbound tourism recorded 141,000 people (+19.6%), and domestic tourism (movement of Moldovan residents within the country for tourist purposes) – 43,500 people (+ 11.5%).
A vast majority of foreign visitors (95.1%) were day-trippers who arrived for rest, recreation and leisure. Most were visitors from Romania, 58.3% of the total, and Italy, with 23.8%.
