Number of tourists visiting Cricova rose by 30%

Around 20,000 people have visited Cricova Winery in the first 6 months of the year, 30% more than in 2015, and 75% of them were foreign tourists, IPN reports.

According to a press release of the company, Cricova Winery, Cricova-Vin Business and Tourism Center and the Agency of Tourism have signed a collaboration agreement in order to increase the number of visitors and harness the potential of wine tourism in Moldova.

The company also mentions that its Cricova Cuvee Prestige NV sparkling wine won the bronze medal at the 47th International Wine & Spirits Competition in London. Meanwhile, Cabernet Sauvignon Prestige 2011 and Vin Virgin 2011 won silver medals at Concours Mondial de Bruxelles. After participating in The Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championships 2016, Cricova’s sparkling wine will be included in the Guide of the best sparkling wines in the world. Finally, Cricova also the jury’s prize and the silver medal in the sparkling wine category at Notorium Awards 2016.

The company’s general manager, Iurie Carp, announced plans to extend the area of vineyards to 1000 hectares over the next 3-5 years, to increase the number of wines with protected origin and geographical indications up to a million bottles, of quality sparkling wines – up to 500,000 bottles, and of sparkling wines – up to 5-7 million. Additionally, the company wants to upgrade its infrastructure. As regards exports, the main targets are the large markets of the USA and China, although the company also hopes to resume exports to Russia.
