The office of the deputy minister of the interior Ion Turcanu was sealed. Minister Oleg Balan Thursday said there are suspicions that a number of documents had been falsified. He noted that disciplinary proceedings were instituted over a case concerning the activity of the Ministry of the Interior, but refused to give details, IPN reports.
Oleg Balan also said the office was sealed in order to prevent particular notes from being destroyed. Another deputy minister provided explanations that do not correspond to the content of a relevant report. Turcanu is not at work as he is on sick leave, as his assistant informed.
As to the press reports that the deputy head of the General Police Inspectorate Gheorghe Cavcaliuc traveled by a car with a false license number, the minister said Gheorghe Cavcaliuc and his family, which had been earlier subject to threats, are under state protection and the license number of the vehicle by which this travels is not false. It is a special number issued to him as a protection measure.
