Oleg Serebrian elected chairman of Latin Union Congress

Moldova's Ambassador to France Oleg Serebrian was voted in as chairman of the Congress of the Latin Union. He replaced Pilar Armanet, former Minister of State of Chile, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to a communique from Moldova's Embassy in France, Oleg Serebrian will chair the Congress for two years, until December 2012. He is the first Romanian speaker elected to this post.
The Latin Union is an international organization of nations that use Romance languages, founded in Madrid in 1954. It aims to protect and promote the common cultural heritage and unify identities of the Latin and Latin-influenced world. Its membership has risen to 40 states.
