Moldovan weightlifter Oleg Sirghi won the silver medal in the first day of the European Championships in Antalya, Turkey, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Sirghi competed in the 56kg category and his result of 262kg was the second best in his category. He lifted 116 kg in the snatch competition and 146 kg in the clean and jerk competition. Last year, Oleg Sirghi became European champions in this weight category.
Today, April 10, Moldova will be represented by Cristina Iovu (53kg) and brothers Ghenadie and Iurie Dudoglo (both 62kg). According to the coach of the national team, all of them can compete for medals.
Over the next days, Moldova’s colors will be defended by Serghei Cechier (69kg), Alexandru Dudoglo, Alexandru Spac (77kg), Gheorghe Cernei (85kg), Anatol Caracu (94kg) and Natalia Priscepa (75kg).
The tournament in Turkey is also a qualifying round for this summer’s London Olympics. Entries at the Olympic Games will be awarded according to the obtained results.
