Olympians awarded by Chisinau City Hall

The athletes and coaches from Chisinau, who were members of the national Olympic squad, received on Friday, August 24, prizes of a total value of 97,000 lei from the City Hall. The prizes were handed by Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca during the municipal conference of teachers, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Cristina Iovu who won the Olympic bronze in weightlifting received 25,000 lei. Cristina’s coaches Sergiu Cretu and Maxim Cojocaru got 10,000 lei each.
Athlete Zalina Marghiev, who ranked 8th in the hammer throw competition, was awarded 10,000 lei. Her father and coach Soslan Marghiev received 5,000 lei.
The youngest sportsman Dan Olaru, a 15 year old archer, who ranked 9th at the Olympics, and Judoka Sergiu Toma, who also took the 9th place, received awards of 8,000 lei. Athlete Ion Luchianov, who finished 10th, and Svetlana Saenko, also 10th placed in women’s wrestling, received 6,000 lei. Coaches Irina Cecanova, Vasile Colta and Victor Pencu got 3,000 lei each.
“I’m sure that in four years we’ll get even better results and these young people will reach their peak and will bring us some gold medals”, declared head of the Mayor’s Cabinet Lilian Carp.
The Olympic Games took place in London, Great Britain, between July 27 and August 12, 2012. Moldova was represented by 20 athletes. Weightlifters Cristina Iovu from Chisinau and Anatol Caracu from Cahul won bronze medals.
