The Ombudsman’s Office can be notified of human rights violations committed during the state of emergency that was declared because of the novel coronavirus pandemic. For the purpose, a new section titled “Respect for human rights in conditions of state of emergency. Stakeholders inform. Ombudspersons react” was created on the institution’s website, IPN reports.

In a press release, the Ombudsman’s Office says the section was designed as an instrument for monitoring the observance of human rights in the Republic of Moldova, based on signals that came from stakeholders of the institution or that appeared in the public sphere.

The Office’s functionaries do not aim and will be unable to verify all the reported cases of alleged human rights violations. The signals will be published on the official website of the Ombudsman’s Office www.ombudsman.md and will be reported to the competent authorities so that these verify the information and intervene if necessary, in accordance with their powers.

The ombudspersons reiterate the proposal to appoint contact persons at the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure, the Reintegration Policies Bureau so as swiftly inform them about the problems reported by the people.
