In connection with the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, Andrei Năstase, who announced his intention to run for President, emphasized the need for urgent constitutional amendments, specifically to amend Article 47 of the Constitution so as to guarantee decent incomes, salaries and pensions covering the minimum subsistence and to introduce a monthly allowance for all children in Moldova, IPN reports.

“The president of the country has the moral, legal and constitutional obligation to ensure that the Moldovans can live in Moldova,” Andrei Nastase said at a press briefing, stressing the need to create well-paid jobs, ensure sufficient income and access to essential services.

He considers it appropriate to introduce an allowance for all children in Moldova, of 3,000 lei per month for children up to 3 years old and of 1,000 lei per month for children aged 3 to 18.

Andrei Nastase urged the President of the Republic of Moldova to submit the two legislative initiatives to the Parliament, stressing that the politicians who are in power must do everything possible so that the families have the opportunity to feed their children, and our grandparents enjoy care and decent living.

At the same time, Andrei Năstase noted that the Constitution is systematically violated by drafting and promulgating unconstitutional laws. In his opinion, the country’s fundamental law in recent years witnessed systematic mistreatment of everything that means democracy and the rule of law.

He referred to the attacks on the Constitution in 2019, but also to the anti-constitutional and anti-democratic slippages of the last four years. Andrei Năstase stressed the need to have a Constitution that reflects the aspirations of the citizens and guarantees their fundamental rights and freedoms.
