A man was killed and two women were hurt in an accident on the road that connects Sofia village and Drochia town in the morning of July 29. Two vehicles collided when one of the drivers didn’t make sure that overtaking was safe.
Marcel Cimbriciuc, senior state auto inspector of the Drochia Patrolling Inspectorate, has told IPN that preliminary investigations showed both of the vehicles moved in the same direction. At a certain moment, the driver of a Honda decided to overtake the car moving ahead, but lost control of the vehicle and struck an Audi laterally. The impact was so powerful that both of the cars were projected into roadside trees.
The driver of the Audi, aged 35, died on the spot, while his mother, who was in the car, was rushed to the hospital with different injuries. The girlfriend of the driver of the Honda, aged 33, was also hospitalized. The driver was unhurt.
Another tragic accident happened in Marinesti village of Sangerei district on July 28. Press officer of the National Patrolling Inspectorate Uliana Catan has told IPN that a 65-year-old man riding a bike tried to cross the street emerging from behind a minibus. He was struck by a car and died on the road to the hospital.
