One more case on frauds at BEM sent to court

One more criminal case started against four members of the Lending Committee of Banca de Economii (BEM) over violation of the lending rules and causing of serious damage to the financial institution was sent to court, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, in 2007-2012 the ex-president of the Lending Committee, in concert with another four members of this, released non-performing loans to 52 business entities to the value of about 2,2 billion lei. The ex-president admitted his guilt.

Currently, the ex-president of the Lending Committee of the BEM is under arrest, while the other respondents are investigated outside remand.

So far, the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Orifice sent to court 14 criminal cases over the release of non-performing loans. Property of the accused was confiscated to compensate for the damage caused to Banca de Economii.
