A man aged 67 from Chisinau died after developing flu complications. The same day, there were recorded 93 new cases of flu, IPN reports.
On February 16, the man was admitted to the Infectious Diseases Hospital “Toma Ciorba”, while on February 23 he was transferred to the National Clinical Hospital. Epidemiologist Gheorghe Braga has told IPN that the man was taken to the National Clinical Hospital with multiple complications caused by the flu, including pneumonia. The disease developed swiftly.
The doctor also said that another patient with AH1N1, from Cimislia, was intubated, being connected to artificial ventilation apparatus.
The Ministry of Health said the cases of flu amounted to 940, while of acute upper respiratory tract infections to 143,000. There were confirmed 123 cases of flu, including 62 cases of type B virus, 58 cases of the AH1N1 virus, and three cases of AH3N2.
To prevent the spread of the respiratory infections and flu in the administrative territories with a significant number of cases (Ciadir-Lunga, Comrat, Taraclia, and Criuleni), there were taken social distancing measures and 18 education institutions, including 13 nurseries, two secondary schools and three lyceums, were closed.
Eight persons died from flu in the 2014-2015 cold season.
