The Government approved a regulation that it says will make it easier to import and export organic products. The document regulates the verification of official shipments of organic products and the issuance of inspection certificates, as well as establishes the cases in which organic products are exempted from official border checks.
The regulation also specifies the courses of action in the event that hazards are detected.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, the legal framework regulating organic production will be improved and adjusted to that of the European Union, facilitating the trade in organic products and diversifying the sales markets.
Also at today’s meeting, the Government approved the updated regulation on the use of the national trademark “Ecological Agriculture - Republic of Moldova”. The main changes include the simplification of the procedure for applying the national mark to a new product by operators already certified in organic farming. Operators will also be able to request the renewal of the authorization for the following year if the product label has not changed significantly.
To date, 13 authorizations for the use of the national brand have been issued by to 7 entities certified in organic agriculture. This has been applied to the following products: herbal tea, table grapes, wine, lavender oil and walnut kernels.
