The Chisinau City Appeals Court sentenced a policeman from Orhei, who two years ago sexually abused a minor girl from Orhei together with two co-villagers, to seven years in jail after the ordinary court of law gave him five years, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, by the July 31, 2018 sentence of the Orhei Court, the police officer was found guilty of rape, but was acquitted on the count of complicity in rape. The prosecutors challenged the verdict, insisting that the man should also be convicted in the second count.
The Chisinau City Appeals Court accepted the prosecutors’ request and found the man guilty on two counts, sentencing him to seven years behind bars. The decision is implementable, but can be challenged in the Supreme Court of Justice.
In July 20017, the culprits, who knew the victim, being at a disco party in Pelivan village, lured the girl into the car of one of these for taking her home. They abused the 16-year-old girl by physical and mental constraints in the presence of the police officer who was driving the car.
The prosecutors established that four days earlier the victim was also sexually abused by the police officer, who invited her to a meeting on the pretext of having to examine a complaint. He raped her in his office at the Orhei Police Inspectorate.
The other two abusers that autumn were given four-year suspended sentences after they fully admitted their guilt and asked to try the case based on the evidence collected at the investigation phase.
