Forty days after the resurrection of Jesus Christ, Orthodox Christians celebrate the Ascension, greeting each other with “Jesus has ascended”, and the answer is “He ascended indeed”. Bishop of “Saint Trinity” Church of Calarasi Ioan Mutu called on the people to go to church and to pray to God as well as to visit the cemeteries of heroes.
Nun Teofana, of “Saints Pious Marta and Maria” Monastery of Causeni, said that when going into heaven Jesus promised the people that he will send the Holy Spirit, who empowered the apostles to preach and thus the Christian Church appeared. “It is one of the oldest Christian feasts. It is a heavenly feast. When returning to life and going into heaven, Jesus Christ offered the people the chance to be God’s sons and to inherit the Kingdom of the Sky,” said the nun.
In monasteries, the liturgical service began yesterday evening, when they read the canons that are read on Easter. “We read all the cannons and pray to God. We urge everyone to do the same,” stated nun Teofana.
Today the Christians go to church to have branches of walnut tree blessed. On the holiday table, they put Easter bread or cakes and eggs painted red.
