The Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova Ambassador Jennifer Brush is for cooperation between the central Government of Moldova and the regional authorities of Gagauzia so as to make sure that the Gagauz autonomy law is effectively implemented, IPN reports, quoting a press release from the Mission.

According to the press release, a delegation of the Gagauz People’s Assembly headed by Dmitry Konstatinov visited Chisinau on February 11 to meet with Ambassador Jennifer Brush and representatives of other diplomatic missions to discuss the latest political developments in the autonomous territorial unit of Gagauzia.

They discussed prospects for the better implementation of the Gagauz autonomy law and ways in which the OSCE could support this process. Jennifer Brush specifically stressed the importance of working together with the central Government of Moldova and the regional authorities to assure that the Gagauz autonomy law is effectively implemented.

“The cultural diversity of Moldova is one of its greatest riches, and an effective implementation of the Gagauz autonomy law will help to keep and embrace this diversity, ensuring that language and minority rights are respected,” said Ambassador Brush.

The autonomous territorial unit of Gagauzia was established in 1994 to protect and support the development of the Gagauz language and culture, reads the press release.

At the beginning of February, the administration of Gagauzia held two referendums that the central authorities and the Comrat Court declared illegal.
