The number of jobless persons who were employed in the first nine months of 2024 grew rapidly, exceeding the employment rates of the previous years. Over 12,000 unemployed people found a job with the support of the National Employment Agency, IPN reports.
“So far this year, we supported the employment of 12,000 people. For comparison, throughout 2023, the National Employment Agency facilitated the employment of 11,060 people. We surpassed the results of the previous year in nine months of this year alone and the pace has increased,” said Minister of Labor and Social Protection Alexei Buzu.
As many as 5,538 unemployed persons (46.0%) and 386 day laborers/employees on contracts of up to three months were hired. Of the total number of employed persons, 6,118 are women (51.0%), 1,873 persons are aged between 55 and 63 years (15.6%), 154 are persons with disabilities (1.3%), 127 are citizens of the Republic of Moldova who returned from abroad (1.1%), 51 are of Roma ethnicity (0.4%) and three are foreign citizens who settled in our country.
Of the total number of unemployed registered in the Agency’s database, 5,538 persons were hired. Of these, 2,948 are women (53.2%), 3,338 are from rural areas (60.3%), 1,674 are young people aged 16-35 (30.2%), 830 are persons aged 55-63 (15.0%), 154 are people with disabilities (2.8%), 103 are migrants who returned from abroad (1.9%), and 51 are Romanies (0.9%).
According to the Agency’s report, the areas in which the 12,000 people found a job are: collective, social and personal services (35.4%), manufacturing industry (13.7%), wholesale and retail trade (11.4%), construction sector (11.2%), agriculture (8.7%), public administration (4.7%), healthcare and social assistance (4.1%), education (3.7%), transport, storage and communications (2.8%).
The Employment Agency recommends jobseekers to go to local employment subdivisions in order to benefit from employment assistance. The services are free of charge and are available to both the unemployed and employees who want to change jobs.

It should be noted that in 2022 and 2023, 8,234 and 11,062 people, respectively, which is almost a quarter (25%) of the unemployed registered in Moldova, found a job through the agency of local employment subdivisions. These results are due to the reformation of the National Employment Agency initiated by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection in 2023.
