The medical and sanitary institutions contracted by the National Health Insurance Company (CNAM) performed 150 transplant operations last year, by 30 more than the previous year. Over 5.7 million lei was allocated from the mandatory health insurance funds for the purpose, IPN reports.
According to the CNAM, out of the total number of performed operations, three were liver transplants, three – kidney transplants, 38 – corneal transplants, 104 – amniotic membrane transplants in the eye. There were also performed a living-donor liver transplant and a living-donor kidney transplant.
The transplant operations are performed in two public medical and sanitary institutions contracted by the CNAM – “Timofei Moşneaga” National Clinical Hospital and the Saint Trinity Municipal Clinical Hospital.
The cost of a liver transplant is over 789,600 lei, of a kidney transplant – 180,300 lei, of corneal transplant (without cost of cornea) – 21,800 lei, amniotic membrane transplant in the eye – 17,600 lei, transfer of a portion of liver from a living donor – 148,900 lei, and transfer of a portion of kidney – 27,900 lei.
An amount of 12.3 million lei was earmarked in 2024 for performing transplant operations.
