Over 2,000 explosive devices defused last year

The National Army's Explosive Ordnance Disposal Division in 2011 defused over 2,000 explosive devices across Moldova, it was said in an annual report of the Division, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Lt.Col. Mihail Semionov, the Division's commander, said that a total of 253 bomb disposal operations were carried out last year. Most often bomb disposal squads were requested to intervene in the districts of Stefan-Voda, Causeni, Anenii-Noi, Ungheni, Orhei, Falesti, Calarasi, Comrat, Ialoveni, Straseni, and Criuleni and in the municipality of Chisinau.
The squad “Codru” was the unit that carried out the most disposal missions last year. The unit, stationed in Negresti village, Straseni district, fulfilled 205 operations and defused about 1,500 explosive devices.
The most often found devices are artillery shells, aircraft bombs and land mines of different sizes. The greatest majority – 97% – are from the WW2, and the reminder – 3% – are from the armed conflict on the Nistru River.
The National Army has six bomb disposal squads.
