Over 22 tonnes of scrap metal seized

Officers of the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime discovered 22.7 tonnes of scrap metal without documents of origin in a truck on Uzinelor St in Chisinau. The driver was a Romanian citizen, Info-Prim Neo reports. The scrap metal was to be smuggled into Romania through the agency of a national economic entity, the Center says in a communiqué. The driver had neither documents of origin for the merchandise, not documents allowing collecting, keeping and selling scrap, ferrous and nonferrous metal. He is liable to a fine of 200 to 2,000 lei. Since the start of this year, the officers of the Center have identified and seized over 60 tonnes of scrap metal without documents of origin.
