4.2% of the Moldovans eligible to vote cast their ballots by 9:30am. For comparison, in the legislative elections of 2010, the voter turnout at this hour was 0.77%, IPN reports.

The president of the Central Election Commission Iurie Ciocan said voting takes place smoothly in all the polling places. More than 117,000 people have voted. Over 8,000 of these were written on additional voter rolls.

There are yet no data concerning voting at the polling places from abroad. Pictures posted on the Internet show long queues at the only polling place established in Moscow.

The parliamentary elections involve 24 runners – 19 political parties, one electoral bloc, and four independent candidates. To enter Parliament, the parties must gain at least 6% of the ballot, the electoral bloc – 11%, while the independents – 2%.

The elections will be validated if the voter turnout is at least 1/3 of the people included in the electoral rolls. The polling places work between 7pm and 9pm.
