More than 500 persons with spine fractures in 2021 underwent surgeries performed as part of the national program “Neurosurgery of Backbone Fractures” that is financed with money from the mandatory health insurance funds. This is by 224 operations more than in 2020, IPN reports.

According to the National House of Social Insurance, 15 million lei was allocated for cases treated within this program. The average cost of a treated case covered by the mandatory health insurance is over 28,000 lei. The surgeries were performed in six public medical institutions contracted by the House.

Sixteen children with spinal and chest wall deformities benefited from anatomic correction surgeries financed from the same funds last year. The sum allocated by the House for these operations, including for the necessary consumables, came to over 709,000 lei. The given operations were performed at the Mother and Child Institute.

About 20 million lei will be spent this year on spine operations and 1 million lei on operations in 20 cases of spinal and chest wall deformities.
