More than 50,000 roof slates were taken to the villages where the hail caused havoc a week ago. This is yet only 40% of the needs. The Civil Protection and Emergencies Service held a working meeting with the heads of the stricken districts to gauge other damage done and to discuss the provision of assistance to families affected by the heavy rain, IPN reports.
According to the Service, the over 50,000 roof slates were distributed to villages of Ungheni, Floresti and Soldanesti districts. More than half of the quantity was transported to Ungheni, where rescuers distributed the slates mainly to the housing sector and to social facilities.
At the request of the local public authorities of Hoginesti village of Calarasi district, the head of the Emergencies Service Mihail Harabagiu ordered delivering slates for repairing the roof of the local secondary school that was seriously damaged as a result of the tempest.
According to the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, the roofs of over 700 houses, education institutions, storehouses and sociocultural facilities in more than 130 villages of 12 districts were damaged by the rain with hail of June 18 and 19. About 158 km of local roads were destroyed.
