The Interior Ministry eyes to unfold a series of measures from December 28 to January 14 to insure the citizens' safety. “The police will be present especially at the venues where the cultural events dedicated to the winter holidays will unfold,” said Nicolae Macovei, a senior police officer, at a news conference.
According to Macovei, some 2,500 police and 1,500 members of people's guards, plus employees of security agencies, will insure the public order in the country within the mentioned period. On the New Year's night, 800 police will supervise Chisinau.
Using petards and fireworks, save the authorized events, is prohibited in public places. According to the police there are but six companies authorized to sell fireworks. The unauthorized sellers of explosives will be sanctioned.
Macovei warns the people to pay heed in buying food and drinks during this period, since some companies are tempted to set for sale outdated and fake products.
The police advises the people going on vacations not to leave their apartment unattended. The ones staying at home shall be vigilant with the teams of carol singers since they can be made of burglars.
The police also warns to abstain from consuming alcohol in large amounts since most of the infractions committed during this period are triggered by inebriated behavior.
When asked by Info-Prim Neo's report, how the Ministry comments the complaints of NGOs about policemen dressed in civilian clothing obstruct legal protests, not introducing themselves, Nicolai Macovei said he would not answer the “provocative” question because the topic of the conference is dedicated to the winter holidays.
Info-Prim Neo published a story earlier about the dissatisfaction of a number of NGOs about the police's practice to send policemen in civilian clothing to halt protest actions.
