As of April 1 this year, more than 80,000 persons will have their pension valorized. The current stage of the pension system reform was discussed by Prime Minister Pavel Filip and representatives of the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family and of the National House of Social Insurance in a meeting in the Government Building, IPN reports, quoting the executive’s press service.
At the current stage, the privileged pensions enjoyed by particular categories of people, such as MPs, ministers, public functionaries and local elected officials, were annulled. Work was done to prepare the regulatory basis and information system for implementing the next stage of the reform. The power to set pensions enjoyed by six institutions was concentrated in the hands of the National House of Social Insurance.
From April 1, 2017, pensions will be determined according to a new formula. Simultaneously, there will be recalculated the pensions set during 2001-2008. More than 80,000 persons will benefit from the valorization of pension.
From the same date, the pensions will be raised by 6.8%, while the minimum pension will be increased from 961 lei to 1,026 lei. The minimum pension for persons who worked in agriculture will rise by 21%.
Pavel Filip requested to immediately prepare the Government decisions on the recalculation and indexation of pensions so that these could be approved in the next meeting of the Cabinet.
In Moldova there are over 690,000 pensioners. In 2016, the average pension was of 1,300 lei.
