The co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Valentina Leskaj and Egidijus Vareikis will pay a working visit to Moldova in July to collect facts about the implementation of the justice sector reform and about the observance of human rights, Prime Minister Pavel Filip said in a news conference held jointly with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland in Strasbourg on June 26, IPN reports.

Pavel Filip reminded that the PACE is monitoring the implementation of the reforms commenced in the Republic of Moldova, noting the closing of the monitoring stage for the Republic of Moldova is an objective of the government program until 2018. “The co-rapporteurs will soon make a new visit to assess the made progress. I refer to the reform agenda here. We consider the report will be positive and hope that our efforts will lead to the completion of the monitoring stage and the initiation of the post-monitoring stage,” stated the Premier.

For his part, Thorbjorn Jagland said the Republic of Moldova did important reforms, but a lot is yet to be done, especially as regards the justice sector reform. “There is a strategy that was extended for one more year and this is an important step taken by the Republic of Moldova. As regards the monitoring process, we will have to follow the developments and will later decide how to act further,” he stated.

Prime Minister Pavel Filip is paying a visit to Strasbourg on June 26 and 27. Yesterday, he took part in the plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and met with a number of EU officials.
