Pandemic flu causes new victims

A pregnant woman and her seven-month fetus died from A(H1N1) pandemic influenza, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the National Scientific Practical Center of Preventive Medicine.
According to sources in the Center, the 29-year-old woman from Durlesti town of the municipality of Chisinau died on January 15. She got sick on December 18, but saw the doctor only five days later. She was diagnosed with bronchopneumona and was admitted into the Chisinau maternity hospital No. 2, but was then taken to the reanimatology section of the National Clinical Hospital as she was in a serious condition. Laboratory tests showed she died of pandemic flu.
The National Virusological Laboratory has confirmed 69 cases of pandemic flu this year. Four persons have died, including two children aged 5 and 11.
On January 20, the National Scientific Practical Center of Preventive Medicine was notified of 874 cases of acute respiratory infection, 314 cases of flu and 108 cases of pneumonia. 13,274 acute respiratory infections, 5,692 cases of flu and 2,257 cases of acute pneumonia have been recorded this year.
A number of 65,585 persons have been vaccinated against pandemic influenza in Moldova so far. There were used 43.7% of the available Cantgrip vaccines. The vaccine produced no adverse side effects.
