The legislative body Monday accepted the resignation tendered by Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubko following the scandal related to the December 23 tragic hunting incident.
The MPs unanimously adopted the decision drafted by Speaker Marian Lupu. Some of the political analysts and representatives of civil society anticipated that Valeriu Zubko’s resignation will not be accepted.
The issue caused debates in Parliament. The Communist opposition and the Liberal-Democratic MPs criticized the work of the Prosecutor General’s Office and Valeriu Zubko.
On the other hand, Liberal MP Ana Gutu said that the resignation of Zubko only will not lead to the improvement of Moldova’s legal system. She questioned the fact that the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Health didn’t know about this accident.
Valeriu Zubko offered his resignation on January 18, after he suspended himself from post in connection with his participation in the December 23 hunting in the Domneasca Forest. As a result of this incident, the Liberal-Democrats, alongside the Communist MPs, asked for the dismissal of the prosecutor general.
