Parliament agrees punishment for discrimination

The lawmakers passed a bill that stipulates punishments for discriminatory practices in the first reading. The bill was put forward by the Ministry of Justice, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Minister of Justice Oleg Efrim said any difference, exclusion, restriction or preference in rights and freedoms will be punished with a fine of 8,000 to 12,000 lei or up to two years’ imprisonment.
The promotion or support of discriminatory practices through the agency of the media will be punished with a fine of 12,000 to 16,000 lei. The fine for legal entities will be higher – of 20,000 to 60,000 lei.
Under the bill, the punishment for discriminatory practices that led to death or made the person to commit suicide will be two to six years in jail. For legal entities, the punishment will be 20,000 to 60,000 lei.
