The legislative body decided to put off the election of district mayors and councilors of Chisinau municipality until 2019. The legislative initiative was passed in two readings by the votes of 56 MPs, IPN reports.
The initiative’s author Vlad Filat said the foundation of new local subdivisions in the municipality of Chisinau after the local general elections of 2015 will generate difficulties in the functioning of the created authorities. The current legislation does not envision powers for these subdivisions and does not specify the relations between the existing municipal authorities and the newly created ones. The creation of new subdivisions with wide powers necessitates more detailed regulation than simple reference to the existing norms.
Vlad Filat also registered two more proposals, concerning the setting up of a working group that would draft a bill on the status of the municipality of Chisinau, and regarding the constitution of a working group that would draft a bill on the status of the municipality of Balti.
