The Parliament has reconfirmed on Friday, December 22, its vote to amend the Broadcasting Code, adopted after two readings, on December 7, after President Igor Dodon refused to pass the Bill, returning it for reexamination. Fifty-nine MPs voted for the reconfirmation of the vote that restricts informative, info-analytical, military, and political show reruns only from programs that were produced in EU member states, USA, Canada, as well as from states who have ratified the European Convention on Cross Border Television, IPN reports.

Vladimir Hotineanu, the chairperson of the Culture&Media Parliamentary Committee, stated that the reasons brought forth by the President when returned the Bill for reexamination were deemed unfounded by the MPs, who chose to keep the votes given on December 7.

The Broadcasting Code Amendment Bill was submitted by MPs from the Democratic Party and the European People’s parliamentary Group and was voted for on December 7, in two readings, with 61 votes. |

President Igor Dodon has motivated his rejection of the Bill by stating that it bans the broadcast of Russian info-analytical shows on the territory of Moldova, the pro-European parliamentary majority does everything in its powers to worsen our relations with the Russian Federation.
