The chairman of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) Igor Dodon announced that the first sitting of the new Parliament this year was scheduled for January 15 and will be chaired by Socialist MP Eduard Smirnov, who is the eldest lawmaker, IPN reports.
“Today, the chairman of the constitution meeting (Eduard Smirnov, e.n.) and the chairman of the future sitting sent a letter to the leaders of the parliamentary groups and the Parliament’s secretariat. Thus, we asked calling the sitting of Parliament on January 15, at 10am,” the leader of the PSRM said in a news conference on January 13.
Igor Dodon also said that the Socialist faction will propose the agenda of the first sitting this year, which will include the election of the executive bodies of the legislature. The PSRM requested holding parliamentary hearings to question the administration of the National Bank and of the acting Cabinet concerning the situation in the banking sector, especially at Banca de Economii, Banca Sociala and Unibank, the draft fiscal policy and draft state budget for 2015, and the situation in the social sphere, as regards the payment of benefits to socially deprived groups.
“The MPs who think about the country’s future are invited to this sitting where Parliament must start work. I hope the lawmakers will show political maturity. Stop playing games. The people gave you power not for distributing the state posts between you,” stated Igor Dodon.
The PSRM won the largest number of seats of MP (25 out of 101) in the November 30 parliamentary elections. The negotiations on the formation of a parliamentary majority held by the Liberal Democratic Party (23 seats), the Democratic Party (19) and the Liberal Party (13) are not yet over.
