Together with the annulment of the mixed electoral system and the return to the proportional one, Parliament has also reduced campaign contribution limits. Further, the electoral legislation has been amended to allow Moldovan nationals earning income abroad to make donations, IPN reports.
In particular, campaign contributions have been capped at six national average monthly salaries for individuals and twice as much for legal entities.
In the case of Moldovan citizens earning income abroad, the limit allowed is three national average salaries.
Cash donations are also capped at three national salaries, and any contributions in excess of that will have to be made by bank transfers only.
The amendments were endorsed by 57 MPs. A final reading is still due, and according to Speaker Zinaida Greceanîi, it will be held during Parliament’s extraordinary session in August.
