The Parliament will examine and adopt the legislative documents needed to overcome the consequences of floods as a priority. Such an announcement was made by the Head of Parliament Marian Lupu at the Government’s meeting of August 11, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the Government’s press service. According to First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Dodon, the level of water in the Prut and Nistru has decreased in most parts. The situation is still alarming in Crocmaz, Tudora and Palanca villages in Stefan Voda district, where 150 military men will be sent to take action if need be. Minister of Construction and Territorial Development Vladimir Baldovici said that only several segments of road 2 kilometers in length were affected by floods and are in need of extensive repair. A number of 459 houses have been flooded throughout Moldova. Out of these, 288 have been destroyed. Briceni district was the worst hit, with 281 houses damaged there. The minister informed that works to build new houses for the Briceni flood victims will be initiated this weekend. As many as 7,500 hectares of agricultural land, mainly crop fields, have been affected by floods. These include 577 hectares of land adjoining private houses. According to estimates, the losses in agriculture amount to about 65 million lei. Prime Minster Zinaida Greceanyi said they should consider the possibility of providing lump-sum payments to the families whose agricultural land was affected by floods. Nineteen working groups composed of veterinary doctors have been set up to prevent diseases in domestic animals. They have vaccinated 54,500 domestic animals. Tudor Potarniche, the deputy director of the Agency for Material Reserves, Public Acquisitions and Humanitarian Aid, said that seven countries have provided humanitarian aid to Moldova to help mitigate the consequences of floods. About 8.8 million lei have been collected from legal entities and private individuals into the account opened to raise funds for flood victims. According to the Agency’s data, approximately 2,400 persons donated parcels with aid, weighing more than 67 tonnes overall. Out of these, 27.7 tonnes have been distributed to flood victims in eight districts of the country.
