A special commission for selecting candidates for the post of ombudsman was constituted in Parliament. The commission will hold a public contest and will choose and present candidates for ombudsman to the legislative body, IPN reports.
The commission will consist of ten MPs. The Parliament’s commission for appointments and immunities delegated Vasile Bolea, Eugeniu Nikiforchuk, Denis Ulanov, Dinu Plîngău and Alexandr Suhodolski, while the commission on human rights and interethnic relations - Doina Gherman, Igor Vremea, Oazu Nantoi, Ion Leucă and Nicolae Pascaru.
The post of ombudsman fell vacant following the death of Mihail Cotorobai at the start of this January. Parliament decided that the post will be held on an interim basis by the ombudswoman for children’s rights Maia Bănărescu.
