The Central Electoral Commission proposed that political parties that promote women in elections should receive more money from the future budget allocations for the funding of political parties. Such a provision was included in the updated Bill on Political Parties Funding developed by CEC, Info-Prim Neo learned from the Commission’s deputy head Stefan Uratu.
“Our group has worked on tools that will guarantee the quality of chances in a real and concrete way. It includes funding quotas for electoral competitors according to the degree to which they assure the equality of chances. If a competitor’s list is prepared according to the principle man-woman, it might get some bonus funding from the allotted budget”, explained the CEC deputy head.
According to the draft law, 0.2% of the state budget’s annual income will be allotted for the funding of political parties. 50% will be allotted for parties to fund their activity and 50% will be allotted to encourage parties that assure the participation of women, youth and disabled people.
CEC submitted the Bill to the Government for approval. A similar proposal was made by First Deputy Speaker Vlad Plahotniuc.
