The NATO Liaison Office in Chisinau will be opened by this December, Prime Minster Pavel Filip stated in the ceremony held to inaugurate the minister of defense designate Eugen Sturza on October 24, IPN reports.
According to the Premier, the Republic of Moldova is a neutral country, but this neutrality does not mean isolation. Pavel Filip recommended the new minister of defense to ensure better cooperation with the international institutions, especially the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
The agreement on the opening of the NATO office in Chisinau was signed by Pavel Filip and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in November 2016, but the opening was put off for several times for technical and infrastructure reasons.
The NATO Liaison Office is announced to be a civil mission.
