President Nicolae Timofti in the evening of January 15 signed a decree by which the deputy chairman of the PDM Pavel Filip was nominated as a candidate for Prime Minister, fielded by the parliamentary majority. The head of state told the press that 55 MPs have signed in support of this candidate, IPN reports.
“Pavel Filip is authorized to think up the work program and to compile the list of Cabinet members and present them in Parliament for examination. I hope he will manage to maintain a balance in society and to fulfill the obligations related to the reformation of a number of social systems, like local self-government and other aspects of our life,” stated Nicolae Timofti.
The nominated candidate said that in the morning of January 18, he will start consultations with the parliamentary groups. “I’m conscious about the not at all easy period through which Moldova goes, both at political and social levels. We will soon begin work on the government program and the composition of the Cabinet,” said Pavel Filip.
Pavel Filip was nominated for premiership after the candidate designated in the evening of January 14 Ion Paduraru withdrew his candidacy.
