The Cabinet headed by Pavel Filip resigned in the evening of June 14 following the Democratic Party’s announcement about its withdrawal from power. “Our leaving will not resolve the current legal impasse and will not annul the Constitutional Court’s decisions. The constitutional crisis remains without a solution,” Pavel Filip stated in a press briefing given alongside ministers, IPN reports.

He noted the ministers decided to tender their resignation because pressure has been exerted on public functionaries, teachers, police officers, doctors and service members during the past few days. “These people do their job and obey the law, not politicians. We will not be the reason for which these people will be put in the terrible situation to choose between one camp or another one,” he stated.

Pavel Filip also said that while holding office of Prime Minister, he abided by law and fully obeyed the Constitution the last few days, as he promised to do when he took up his duties. “We are leaving at peace with ourselves,” he stated, noting the objective in the period was to make the European course irreversible and he never thought that Moldova will have a conventionality declared pro-European government.

The Premier said the taken decision does not mean they gave up. They will continue to work for Moldova, but from other positions. “I hope we will reach a day when this country and its peoplewill decide their fate by themselves and this will not be decided by someone from outside it,” stated Pavel Filip.

He thanked his family, brothers and sisters for bearing his absence and wished good luck to the next Prime Minister. “This post implies huge responsibility. For the people’s benefit, I hope this will cope better than me,” he noted.
