Prime Minister Pavel Filip requested the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection to open an investigation into the irrational spending at the former hospital of the state-run company Moldova’s Railways. The request was made after the Premier made a visit to the hospital and saw a luxury ward intended for chiefs there, IPN reports.

“These are nothing but remnants of the Soviet period when they considered that the chiefs should enjoy separate wards with shower cubicle, telephone, marble, with bedrooms that are 30-50 square meters in area. The problem is that these wards occupy one third of the area in that block,” stated Pavel Filip.

He asked to reorganize the ward so as to increase the number of beds for patients, noting the hospital will also be responsible for the provision of medical assistance to war veterans.

The hospital was transferred under the management of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection in 2017.
