The Communist MPs proposed that the presidential elections should be held on December 15, but the ruling alliance did not accept their proposal, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Victor Popa, the head of the Parliament’s legal commission for appointments and immunities, said the elections set for November 18 did not take place because no candidate was registered. Until a new date for the elections is set, amendments should be made to the legislation so as to decide what happens when no candidate is fielded.
According to Communist MP Sergiu Sarbu, the Constitution says that if the elections do not take place in certain circumstances, they are rerun.
His faction colleague Vadim Misin said the procedure for electing the head of state was launched when the date of the elections was fixed and the special commission for the election of the President was set up. The elections should be rerun if they did not take place for certain reasons.
