The Communist Party (PCRM) will make everything possible for Banca de Economii (Savings Bank) to be nationalized so that the state owns all its shares, said Communist MP Oleg Reidman, who heads the parliamentary commission of inquiry into the situation at the BEM and the whole banking system of Moldova, IPN reports.
Oleg Reidman told a press briefing that the commission is completing its duties and will present a report. The commission members on behalf of the PCRM will include the major conclusion that Banca de Economii should be nationalized in the report. “Only this way can the institution be saved and the bank’s 2 million clients will not lose their money,” said Oleg Reidman. He stressed that all the Communist MPs support this decision.
The state now owns 56% of the shares in Banca de Economii. A number of politicians said the bank is close to bankruptcy owing to the delinquent loans. The Government decided to allocate 200 million lei to ensure the bank’s stability. The minority shareholders will also provide a cash injection for the purpose.
