The Union of the Afghan War Veterans of the municipality of Chisinau dissociates itself from the National Union of Afghan War Veterans as it does not agree with the support provided to the Communists Party in the present election campaign, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In a news conference on Wednesday, the head of the Chisinau Union of Afghan War Veterans Vladimir Mironov said the PCRM should not count on the votes of the veterans from the municipality.
“The war in Afghanistan was started by the former Communist Party of the USSR, which is the forerunner of the PCRM. Many of us were forced to take part in that war. During eight years, the ruling PCRM did not take care of those who fought in Afghanistan and did not create decent living conditions for them,” Vladimir Mironov said.
He also said the allowances and pensions provided by the former administration to those who fought in Afghanistan are miserable.
According to Vladimir Mironov, the Communist government favored the Union of Officers, which is under the patronage of the Communist leader, and offered former KGB officers and generals who had never fought in war pensions of 7,000 to 14,000 lei.
“The invalids with the first and second disability degree receive pensions of 790 lei, plus the presidential allowance of 450 lei. The Afghan war veterans can no more endure poverty,” Mironov said, adding the veterans will vote for the Alliance for European Integration.
Founded in 2006, the Chisinau Union of Afghan War Veterans has over 2,000 members.
