The Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) will plead for the modification of the electoral system of Moldova in proper accordance with the recommendations of the Venice Commission, the party says in a press releases issued after the June 16 meeting of the Commission, IPN reports.
According to the statement, the PDM considers the members of the Venice Commission did important work in a short term and this will help the party to adjust the draft law to change Moldova’s electoral system in accordance with the international electoral standards.
The PDM reminds that it carried out a nationwide campaign to inform the people about the direct voting of MPs and a campaign to collect signatures in favor of the electoral system change. According to the party, over 850,000 people signed for directly choosing the MPs in the next elections. The PDM says it is firmly committed to the political reformation process and will respect the people’s wish to choose the MPs directly in the next elections.
The party said it will analyze each of the recommendations in the Venice Commission opinion during the next few days and will look for solutions to modify the electoral system in accordance with these recommendations. Consultations on the Venice Commission’s recommendations will be held with members of Moldova’s Parliament and with foreign officials, including experts of the Venice Commission.
