The Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) considers the accusations made against it by the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM) are marked by the emotions related to the arrest of the Liberal-Democratic leader Vlad Filat and will thus not make comments. The PDM expresses yet its interest in maintaining the ruling alliance and Moldova’s European course, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the party.

“The Democratic Party of Moldova took cognizance of the accusations made by the alliance partners from the PLDM. We consider they are unfounded, but understand that they were made in an atmosphere of tension and emotions and therefore will refrain from classifying them somehow. But the PDM appreciates that Mister Vlad Filat benefits from the presumption of innocence and we will not state a position on the accusations made against him until there is no definitive court decision,” reads the communique.

“We think this delicate situation should not be inflamed and amplified. Any speculations are now very dangerous as we do not know all the accusations and evidence collected in this case. The PDM considers that it is now important to find a balance so as to prevent a profound political crisis. We must show maturity, wisdom, calmness and responsibility. The dismemberment of the ruling alliance will put Moldova and its people in a difficult situation. Our country needs stability and unity now more than ever so that we could together rebuild the state institutions.

“To eliminate any speculation, we declare with firmness that the Democratic Party of Moldova does not want the agreement to form the Alliance for European Integration 3 to be ended and does not want early elections.  Such actions could cause a political crisis, as it happened when the previous agreement was terminated. It is important to start doing reforms, not to enter now an elections campaign.”

The PDM reasserts its commitment to maintain Moldova on the path of European integration, which is the only one that can help modernize the country, according to the party.
