Representatives of the Party of European Socialists (PES), which is one of the largest European political groups holding a parliamentary majority or forming part of government coalitions in most of the European states on the continent, in a news conference held in Chisinau on October 30 announced that they give their firm support to the Democratic Party (PDM) for the November 30 legislative elections. PES leader Serghei Stanishev said the PDM is the only party in Moldova that enjoys the support and friendship of the European Socialists and is the party that can ensure balance and the economic and social development of the country, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué of the PDM.

“The PDM represents a reliable member for the European Socialists and we have cooperated nicely with Marian Lupu and with the party for many years because we share the same values of justice, social democracy, equality and preeminence of the interests of ordinary people as such states as Norway and Sweden,” stated Stanishev.

According to him, the PDM is a moderate party and this is very important for Moldova. “This is the party of dialogue, peace and tolerance, which is important for the country and society, because in Europe, and Moldova is not an exception, there are enough political radicals and extremists. The PDM was and is the force of understanding and moderate presence in politics, including at foreign level, which is a very important mission,” said Stanishev.

“This visit is very suggestive. I refer not only to the good relations of cooperation between the PES and PDM, but also to the relations of friendship between them because it is made in the full swing of the election campaign and this way the European Socialists transmit a very clear signal of support for the European course and for the PDM as a party that promotes Moldova’s modernization,” stated Marian Lupu.

He noted that unlike other political parties of Moldova that pay different visits to be received by European officials, the colleagues of the PDM came to Chisinau themselves. “This is the only case when high-ranking officials didn’t invite us to Brussels or other capitals, but came themselves to Moldova,” said Lupu, adding that the representatives of the PES will take part in the ceremony to launch the platform of the PDM on October 31.
