Pensioner from Chisinau Piotr Bejenari, his sister and his brother 29 years ago built a house near the Park “Valea Trandafirilor”, but since 2017 the three families have been through an ordeal owing to the construction of a 13-story apartment building in the vicinity.
After the bloc’s foundation hole was dug, Piotr Bejenari’s house started to slide. The walls fissured and the roof was damaged by pieces of planks, stones or fragments of reinforced concrete that fell onto the house from the building site.
In a news conference at IPN, Piotr Bejenari said he requested the local authorities of Chisinau to help him buy a comparable house in the same part of the city. The company that erects the building offered him a house in Stăuceni, but he considers the offer is not equitable.
As the municipal institutions didn’t react to help him solve the problem, the pensioner, who believes his rights are violated and he is wronged by the authorities, decided to seek help from the press. Piotr Bejenari said he invested a lot of money in his two-story building with attic, including the revenues he earned abroad, in the hope he will live his old age in a comfortable and solid house. The constant noise that comes from the building site affected his health.
Since 2017, when the construction of the building started, Piotr Bejenari and his sister have notified a series of responsible institutions, including municipal building and urbanism divisions, the Ecological Inspectorate and the Botanica district head’s office, but all in vain.
Piot Bejenari noted that in 1989, when he started to erect his house, the municipal authorities assured him that the urbanistic plan does not envision major changes in that area or demolitions. He constructed his house in the place of an old building located on an adjoining lot that is 12 ares in area. He bought this from the former owner. Later, he also looked after an area of land close to a precipice that was 8 ares in area, taking about 20 trucks of garbage there, installing a rainwater drainage pipe and planting trees and flowers, including 50 walnut trees and 70 lilac bushes. At his own expense, he turned that area into a clean green area that is admired by passersby.
The pensioner also said that he behaved like a responsible citizen who cares about the ecological state of the city, but the competent authorities didn’t privatize that piece of land to him. Now the lot is to be sold by the municipal authorities.
