The pensions as of next year will be indexed twice a year – on April 1 and on October 1. The MPs adopted a bill to this effect after giving it a final reading, IPN reports.
The indexation on April 1 will be performed according to the current procedure – for all the beneficiaries, according to the average consumer price index for the past three years. The indexation on October 1 will cover over 400,000 pensioners with pensions lower than the minimum subsistence level during the first implementation year, 2020.
According to the National House of Social Insurance, there were over 700,000 recipients of pensions in Moldova at the start of 2019. Some 75% of these receive old-age pensions. The average pension is 1,895 lei. Also, about 400,000 persons get pensions lower than the minimum subsistence level.
