The hen eggs at the market are sold at the same prices as last year or even cheaper at some booths before the Easter holidays. Even so, the sellers and the producers say the demand for eggs is still low, Info-Prim Neo reports. Nicolae Pretula, commercial director of a hen egg production company working in Floreni village, said the eggs are cheaper owing to the crisis and to the people's reduced purchasing power. Last year, ten eggs sold for 13-14 lei before Easter, as opposed to 11-11.5 lei at present. At the company, they can be bought for 9-10 lei, Nicolae Pretula said. Ion Stavila, sales manager of an egg production company in Tarnova village of Donduseni village, said that before Easter last year they sold by about 70,000 eggs a day, but this week they sold by only 30,000 eggs a day. Natalia Scoric, seller at the Central Market in Chisinau, said the bigger eggs last year sold for 17 lei for ten eggs, but now for only 11.5 lei. Immediately after New Year, the price of eggs decreased to 8 lei and then rose slightly, but the demand remained the same. “We hope the demand will increase towards this weekend,” she said.
